The Players in Fractional CO2 Resurfacing
The major players in laser resurfacing all use the same core
technology of carbon dioxide to smooth wrinkled, sun damaged
and scarred skin. How it's delivered to
the skin is what makes each company's laser different.
Lumenis, the makers of the ActiveFX and DeepFX, introduced
the CO2 laser system for treating aging skin in 1998. This first system,
called the Ultrapulse, remains the "gold standard" in laser
resurfacing.
New generation technology allowed this powerful laser to be
tamed to dramatically lower the associated downtime. With
fractional lasers, only a portion of the skin is treated,
improving tolerability and creating new uses such as the
reduction of acne scarring. The Ultrapulse FX laser system is the only laser system that can be
tuned to leave from 95% to 0% of skin intact in a single
pass.
This ability to select such a variety of
parameters is unmatched and is one of the reasons Dr. Mani
chooses the Lumenis FX lasers for her patients.

"Even application of the laser beams means a uniform result.
With the Lumenis FX lasers I can eliminate the potential of
problem-causing overlap and uneven heat distribution as can
happen with other lasers. My patients deserve the most
technologically sound system available and that's what they
get." Dr. Nasrin Mani

Lumenis has had many years to fine tune this
technology and make theirs one of the safest and most
efficient in the medical industry.
New players, including Fraxel, MiXto, Palomar,
Eclipse, and others, all have hitched their wagons to the
star that Lumenis brought to the cosmetic industry over 12
years ago.

Split Face Study - Comparing Lasers
In 2007 Dr. Robert Weiss performed a split face study at
Johns Hopkins using the Active FX on one side and the Fraxel

both the comfort of the procedure and the results of the
Active FX. Dr. Weiss is an associate professor at Johns
Hopkins School of Medicine and in 2008 became president of
