Laser Know How
Undergoing Lasers in
the Summer
There are a few things you need to
know about choosing to have laser treatments in the summer.
Especially if you have tanned or ethnic skin.
Some
"Laser Bewares"
Hair
Laser - If you spend time at the beach and engaged in a lot
of outside activity in the summer, chances are you're going
to tan. This also means you have to be very careful where
and who is performing your hair
laser sessions. Why?
Hair lasers target pigment. The more pigment in your skin
(tan), the more likely your skin will be a target too.
Results? Dark patches, even possible loss of color. A
full-complement laser practice will have lasers that won't
harm tanned skin. Not all hair lasers are alike, so do be
careful in your selection of practitioner.
CO2 lasers on the face are a little dicey if you're a
beach-person or tanner. Unless you are great at sun
protection, wait on this procedure until your beach days are
over. IPL
- Not a laser, but still, it works by targeting pigment. IPL is still workable during high sun
months if you tend to be a sun safe person and don't indulge
in tanning. Again, if your doctor suggests you wait, then wait.
Safe Summer Skin Improvers
Cosmelan - Topical
treatment to lessen pigmentation
Microdermabrasion - A safe "any time" skin polishing for
fresher smoother skin
Light Chemical Peels - Glycolic peels of the lighter
variety will expose fresh new skin with little risk of color
changes
Medical grade skin products - Often a well rounded skin
care routine will make surprising improvements in how your
skin looks. Melanin suppressors, tissue growth factors,
hydration serums, scrubs and exfoliants. And of course
SUNSCREEN and SUNBLOCK!
Radiofrequency Skin Tightening - Thermage has no
problematic effect on surface skin, so it's a "good to go"
anytime. Fast firming of the buttocks, hips, abdomen and
thighs with the new Body Tip 16 and long term firming with
Thermage for the Face.
Only people who really
like old-looking prematurely-aged skin go without sun
protection.
